SEPAK TAKRAW

Sepak Takraw or kick volleyball is a sport native to Southeast Asia, resembling volleyball, except that it uses a rattan ball and only allows players to use their feet and head to touch the ball. A cross between football and volleyball, it is a popular sport in Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos, Philippines and Indonesia.

Sepak takraw has been contested for the first time at international level in 1965 at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA). There is an organization in Malaysia that has been known as Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (STAM) that manages the team and helps the national elite squad to prepare for competition. International play is now governed by ISTAF, the International Sepak Takraw Federation. 

Malaysia team have been participates in the Southeast Asian Games (also known as the SEA Games) starting from year 1965 until now. Besides that, Malaysia’s Sepak Takraw team also participate in Asian Games. Malaysia's best achievement in the Asian Games was winning two gold medals when sepak takraw was first introduced at the Beijing Games in 1990. In addition, they won the sepak takraw gold medal during the Hiroshima Games in 1994.

KITE FESTIVAL

Wau Bulan has been known international since 1995 because of the festival-cum-competition that has been held. This year Malaysia organized Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival from 15th to 19th of February 2012, it will become the focal point for kite enthusiasts all over the world, and for the visitor a feast for the eyes because of a myriad of kite designs and shapes keenly reflecting a cultural and artistic diversity. Malaysia’s own unique kite, the wau bulan will attract attention from the foreigners because of the features and uniqueness of the kite. 






The Festival’s 2012 theme goes by 1Langit, 1Budaya (1Sky 1Culture). As part of the “Twin Kite City” program with the Weifang International Kite Festival, this year’s Pasir Gudang Kite Festival will also showcase kites from Weifang, Shandong, featuring China as the main international participant among 35 countries. There’s an impressive event line-up with a kite-flying competition, kite performances and kite-making workshops as the highlights.
